Press Now launches Fund for Extraordinary Journalistic Projects in Morocco
Moroccan media operate under pressure of economic and political constraints. While independent media developed a certain tradition of investigative journalism and while some media do engage in in-depth reporting, lack of resources prevent media to invest in long term investigative projects. Therefore Press Now has taken the initiative to set up a Fund to support Special Journalistic Projects. The Fund constitutes a first step in the development of a media support programme in Morocco.
Journalists are called upon to apply. They should provide proof that their article will be placed e.g. a letter of support of an editor in chief. Application forms can be downloaded at www.pressnow.nl. Applications should be presented in French. The deadline for presenting applications is 13 March 2006.
Projects should contribute to the debate on issues relevant to Moroccan society. Applicants will receive a scholarship for a maximum of 3 months. Also some additional research costs can be supported (travel, documentation etc.). The maximum contribution is euro 5.000.
The Fund is modelled after the 'Pascal Decroos Fund for Extraordinary Journalistic Projects' in Flanders.
